Futoshiki

A Latin square with greater-than signs.

Preparing today's puzzle…

How to play Futoshiki

  1. Fill the grid so that every row and every column holds each number from 1 to the size of the grid exactly once: 1 to 5 on a 5 by 5 grid.
  2. The signs between two squares say which one is larger: the open side of the chevron faces the larger number, the point faces the smaller.
  3. A square that is smaller than a neighbour can never hold the largest number, and a larger one can never hold 1. Follow chains of signs: in a chain of three rising squares, the first is at most the size minus 2.
  4. Check my work marks the digits that are wrong. A hint fills in one square: it costs a little XP, never time.
  5. There is a new puzzle every day, the same for everyone: 5 by 5 from Sunday to Tuesday, 6 by 6 from Wednesday to Friday, 7 by 7 on Saturday. Every puzzle has one solution and can be solved by logic alone.

Keyboard: arrows to move, the digits to write, N for notes, Backspace to erase, U to undo. Each square's name says how it compares with its neighbours.
